PLP Initiatives
Every new PLP initiative is developed based on learning from the PLP academic and action research, and from Talent and Mentor consultations and then conceptualized and implemented by project teams composed of Talent and seasoned leaders.
PLP offers full grants to select Talent to pursue MBA or MPA and Jewish Studies degrees. Candidates are chosen for excellence and commitment to becoming executive-level leaders in the Jewish community.
With five hubs across America, this educational initiative offers participants coaching and mentoring, leadership tools, and private sessions with today’s most successful leaders in the Jewish community.

Organizational Readiness
PLP’s outreach mechanism for Jewish organizations that want to collaborate with us as they work to attract and retain next generation of Talent in their own organzaitons.
Knowledge
Since its inception, PLP has been collecting information, both formally and informally about the next generation, especially in the workplace. PLP will share lessons learned about the needs, expectations and characteristics of the next generation of leaders. This information will provide organizations with the insight needed to evaluate their workplace settings and their policies with an eye toward recruiting and retaining the next generation.
Placement
Customized placement of Talent in professional as well as volunteer positions will occur with organizations that meet the PLP criteria. These criteria will be developed and agreed upon with our partner organizations, and include requirements such as competitive pay, onsite mentoring, and clear growth potential.
ABOUT THE PROFESSIONAL LEADERS PROJECT:
THE CRISIS
If the American Jewish Community does not embrace, recruit, and nurture the next generation of talented leaders now... there will be a major talent and leadership crisis in the next decade.
PLP's academic and action research demonstrates that today, outstanding 20 & 30-Something leaders are not pursuing Jewish professional or volunteer leadership positions because of a:
- Belief that the doors to the Jewish community are difficult to open
- Perceived inability to contribute their voices and expertise once hired
- Lack of professional development and mentoring opportunities
- Non-competitive compensation and lack of opportunity for advancement

THE SOLUTION: Professional Leaders Project
TURNING JEWISH LEADERSHIP OVER TO THE NEXT GENERATION
WHAT MAKES PLP UNIQUE
Next Generation Talent: Professionals and Volunteers
Our Talent network is comprised of both outstanding Jewish professionals and volunteer leaders, with much interchange and collaboration between the two:
- Professional Talent is funding and spearheading projects together with the volunteer Talent they are connected to via PLP
- Volunteers are inspired by their peers to explore opportunities in the Jewish community
Boutique approach
- We hand-select Talent, and provide them with high caliber leadership tools and opportunities, individual attention, mentoring and guidance
- PLP’s initiatives are small, specialized, and tailored to the Talent’s needs
- We use the highly effective intimate Salon Model of learning and conversations
Pioneers
- PLP identified the Jewish Talent Crisis and elevated it to become one of the more pressing issues in the American Jewish community
- We were the first organization to uncover the existing talent pool of 20 & 30-Somethings who could be recruited under the right circumstances
- We have coined terms such as “Talent”, “Organizational Readiness", and “LiveNetworks,” used today by numerous projects and groups
Values Based Model
- Jewish values include commitment to the Jewish people and pride in Jewish identity (hizdahut), quest for knowledge (limud), moral courage (musarim), service to the community (avodah), and desire for social change (tikkun olam)
- Universal values include promoting inter-generational dialogue, creating collaborative partnerships, welcoming plurality, encouraging entrepreneurialism, and modeling innovation, transparency, integrity and accountability
New Organizational Model
- PLP’S organizational structure uses modern and innovative management techniques
- Flat model that shares the power of decision making with participants at all levels
- Bridge between generations
- Participants across the nation assume leadership positions
- Compensation for those who contribute time
