PLP LiveNetworks™
LiveNetworks™ is an unprecedented educational leadership initiative that creates a Talent network of leaders and offers participants coaching and mentoring, leadership tools, and private sessions with today’s most successful leaders in the Jewish community.
A Talent network of 85 outstanding leaders in their mid-20’s to early 30’s was selected out of hundreds of applications. Individuals were selected based on proven leadership, passion for Jewish life and desire to lead in the Jewish community, in a professional or volunteer capacity.
The Talent network is unique in its balanced composition. Jewish professionals and Jewish volunteers are both equally represented, as are the numbers of males and females. The Talent is also spread across the political, social and religious spectrum. They are leaders in many academic and professional fields including arts, business, technology, law, marketing, international relations and politics, social work, and more.
PLP's pilot for the LiveNetworks has begun with 5 hubs across the country. Participants were divided into hubs based on their geographical location. Several Talent travel to their LiveNetwork hubs in order to participate in the meetings. Each LiveNetwork is intimate and has a small number of participants, allowing them to get to know each other well, and develop strong working and personal connections.
The 5 LiveNetwork hubs:
- Southeast – Meets in Washington DC and includes Talent from the DC area, South Florida and Atlanta
- Northeast – Meets in New York City and includes NY area and Boston Talent
- Midwest – Meets in Cleveland, and includes Detroit and Chicago Talent
- Northwest – Meets in Seattle and San Francisco
- LA West – Meets in Los Angeles, and includes Talent from Santa Barbara, Austin and Dallas
The LiveNetwork Model:
In year one, each LiveNetwork met once a month for a period of 7 months. Each session includes study and exploration on topics that are relevant to the present and future leadership of this generation and to individual leadership growth and development.
All meetings take place in private homes, in accordance with our “salon model”. The intimate environment coupled with the small size of the group is conducive to open, frank and challenging conversations.
Each session includes a Live Case Study featuring successful professional or volunteer leaders in the Jewish community. The guest speakers are relevant to the session’s topic and share with the group their leadership story or their expertise, followed by an open and frank discussions with the Talent. Live Case Study guests have included presidents of federations, respected rabbis, and political movement leaders.
Key leadership lessons for each session are introduced and reinforced through Jewish conversations and text study led by PLP participants, staff, and dynamic guest educators from the local community. Sources include modern commentaries, articles, studies and documentaries along with additional Torah and Talmudic texts.
PLP's LiveNetworks also incorporates cutting-edge analytical and academic leadership tools from the management world, including the Emotional Intelligence Quotient, Learning Styles Inventory and the Campbell Leadership Descriptor. These tools help guide the Talent to collaborate with others to identify their strengths and weaknesses to improve their leadership skills.
Each LiveNetwork members receives ongoing one-on-one mentoring to supplement the learning of the LiveNetworks. This coaching encourages the Talent to translate the skills they learned into action.
LiveNetworks – Phase 2:
PLP's LiveNetworks pilot program will continue into year two with LiveNetwork Impact Projects couples with our new Mentoring Initiative. The goal of the LiveNetwork Impact Project is for Talent to act and lead in the Jewish community by integrating their new learnings from the PLP LiveNetworks with their unique experiences, ideas and gifts.
The goal of the Mentoring Initiative is to empower Talent to be as successful as they continue to grow into thier Jewish leadership roles. All LiveNetwork Phase 2 Talent will be paired with a seasoned professional or volunteer leader acting as a mentor for up to 1 year. Mentors will provide support and guidance on Talent’s Impact Projects and future leadership paths. Talent will choose their mentors with PLP guidance. Talent and Mentors will be provided with the professional tools needed to create, maintain and close successful mentoring relationships.
